The Northern Isle

This is the Caldonacian name for the largest island among the isles to the north of Caldonacia. The islands had been colonised shortly after Caldonacia, but had struggled with food production, which limited the size of their population. For a thousand years after The Great Disaster it was ruled as a series of feudal baronies, with no overall control, no outsiders seemed to want political control of the bleak wilderness.

It wasn't until the 1100's that the island people started to get to grips with their land, and as the final throws of the Disaster receded, they finally saw a rise in their population numbers. By 1200 they were a much stronger community, but still had no political unity, until Caldonacia invaded, which King Bruan II saw as a test for his newly trained army.

This generated some much needed unity among the islanders, who spent many years causing trouble for the Caldonacians, until they eventually overthrew their occupiers after a civil war between 1224 and 1226. This caused the island to establish its first parliament, made up of the senior feudal chiefs of lands that were restored to family control. It was not until this occupation that the outlying islands here became colonised.

The Islanders themselves have many names for their small land, but the most popular name seems to be the Isle of Tenagria.
