Cornan Lewis is an experienced politician and a shrewd political player; he has used all his experience to earn himself the post of Lord Chancellor. This role is that of a legal overseer, to monitor the laws of the land and to see ensure that all functions as well as possible, to propose law changes and and new laws that can help the Kingdom function more smoothly.
Much of the law of Arthea is defined by precedent, but King James often issues written proclamations (the first King to do this formally) which have also become part of statute. The Lord Chancellor records and maintains this legal information, along with summaries of precedent which has arisen through direct trial.
While the Kings Guard report day-to-day to the Lord High Minister for Security, he defers legal argument to Cornan who has the privilege of deciding on interpretation on behalf of the King. More recently he has begun drafting the legal proclamations made by the King that used to make small changes to the laws of the land.
