Fel-Khezran

There are many dwarves living in the towns and cities of humans, and they are fiercely proud of their heritage and their race. It is no surprise that, to protect the interests of their race while living in these lands, they should create their own organisations. Although no one has proved the existence of an Arthean dwarf-only thief guild, the dwarfish fighter guild, the Fel-Khezran has a high profile and is doing well. Initially, as dwarfs drifted into the human society, there slowly sprang up a series of guilds aimed at providing the specialised services dwarf warriors require. In true dwarf style, the guilds were so well organised that they soon came together under single banner, and now provides one of the best levels of training anywhere in the land.

The group specialises in fighting techniques of dwarfs, and while they have also become a favourite of halfling fighters, most humans require training in different techniques. This means that few humans ever join the guild although the dwarfs do not stop them. This lack of interest and the different techniques required for humans means that there is extra cost to the dwarfs when training them; this means higher prices for humans. Also, the gnomish race seems to have abandoned all its own guilds and now most use dwarfish facilities if they ever need to train while in the lands of mankind.

Although membership fees are higher than other guilds, most dwarves see the extra cost as good value. Being a fellow of the Fel-Khezran is a high honour among human fighters, even if few actually seek such a height themselves.

The smallish membership also means that the guild cannot keep guild facilities open in every town. Instead, they have tried to select locations where there is easy access from surrounding towns. Also the number of dwarfs in each town affects the choice of location, as it would be foolish to spend scarce resources on guild-houses which would see little use.

The dwarves running the guild also keep in touch with the major delves in each area, and provide a messaging service to allow letters to be delivered to family and friends back home. This scheme has been very successful, and is also proving useful to the gnomish communities too as their homelands are often very close to the dwarfs. The delves also help by providing funds to assist the guild, and help them maintain the excellent standards that they have set for themselves.

The guild has three levels of membership. The lowest is ordinary membership which is open to all the warrior classes, and costs 175gp. The next level is Fellowship membership which is sold to those of appropriate level that have the financial resources; it costs 200gp per year. The highest level, "Master Warrior", is offered to dwarves who have attained fellowship level and have performed some great deed in the name of the dwarfish race. This is a very rare award, as some of those who have earned it have not been able to afford the fees. This costs 240gp per year.
