Cellam Palace
The palace at Cellam is an impressive structure. It was built at a time of extreme wealth in Ticetia, with King Egar of Cellam reaping the rewards of a brisk diamond trade. In 1057 south Ticetia was growing fast in the wake of this industry, and was for the first time able to challenge the Imperial power on the forefront of artistic achievement.
It was a new era in the political arena; Ticetia was suddenly as rich on its own as half the Empire, and even though the Ticetian kingdoms were behind in their achievements, they were catching up fast. King Edgar was keen to emphasise this growth. He commissioned the palace with few real ideas of his own, but with a desire to create a building that tipified the new Ticetian style. He also had a resource that wasn't available to the Imperial rulers| dwarves.
His architechts for the task were Cromley Halman (the crown-appointed architect of the Kingdom of Nuneith), Jorley Mennard (a wealthy architect hired from the court of Antaurus in the Empire), and Gannard McRoght (a dwarf architect recommended by the King of Kathron who had worked on projects on both Kathron and Riviga delves). They spent several months working on the designs, pulling in aspects of Imperial style and dwarfish solidness, but rounding it off with a Ticetian flavour that really made the plans stand out. Edgar, it is said, was so impressed by the bold style, he had them begin building work immediately.
The outer dress stone was a pale marblesque quarried from the southern end of the Ticetian mountains, while the inner frame came from granite taken from the Cellam mountains to the west of the city. A small army of human and dwarfish craftsmen dressed the stone, while hundreds of labourers pulled the building together.
Once complete, the building was opened by the twelve Ticetian monarchs, for whom this place was to become the heart of their power. It also spawned a new building fashion across Ticetia. The style was even copied in parts of the north-western Empire, and became synonymous with the new, rich traders of Jorlinum.
The building has seen many changes in the turbulent 350 years it has stood by Ticetia square. After unification, the throne of Arthea briefly came here, but soon returned to Antaurus and Tholain. When Ticetians siezed the crown, the building was rejuvenated before the crown of Ticetia came home.
