Dominus Antaurus was not destined for the role of Emperor when he was born. He was nephew of Emperor Victus and cousin to Emperor Gravus, and spent his early years living in Antaurus. He was born in Duestius and his family moved to Mercunum when Gravus became Emperor. While he was already a businessman, he was lured into politics by ties to his family, and spent some time working with the Prince of Antaurus before the Empire was thrown into turmoil.
When General Cassius Dumus siezed control of the Empire in 1063 he needed to reinstate the true line of the rulers of the Empire, and came searching for the heir of the Empire. As Dominus was the oldest survivor of his family, and closely related to the Emperor, it was easy to search the family history and prove his imperial pedigree. Dominus needed a promise of military protection if he were to take on the Emperor's crown. This he received from Dumus.
