King Pelarus

1271 - 1330

The last King of Caldonacia, Pelarus Venet was destined to end his reign early. He came to the throne on his 21st birthday in 1292, a role that had been fulfilled by his mother, Queen Elemor Venet, since his father died in 1289.

Pelarus was kidnapped by Ticetian forces in 1324, and his treatment at the hands of his captors left him fearful of his enemies to the west. His military picked up the job of defence for the land, and it doubled in size after the event, but they were always poorly paid and poorly equipped.

In 1330 the Ticetian army was mobilised. Pelarus was confronted by the massed army of Ticetia, he was both out-numbered and faced an army which had been far better trained in the tactical manoeuvres of the battlefield. The invasion, headed by King Hugo of Ticetia, proved a short one. The Caldonacian defeat was the catalyst for an Imperial march northwards, and the war of Unification began.

There has been no native Caldonacian King since Pelarus; his line, the House of Venet, is lost. It was rumoured that his family retreated to the northern isle of Husch, but King Hugo was said to have hunted the Venet heirs down. There has never been a Caldonacian King upon the throne of the unified Arthea.
