Martialis Imperium
During the long history of the former Empire, its Emperors have frequently called upon fighters guilds to supply well trained armed men for fighting the wars and leading the peasants into battle on many occasions. Out of that need have arisen several fighters guilds that have taken the art of warfare to its highest levels. One of the finest guilds to assist with that is the Martialis Imperium.
The guild was formed by retiring Imperial Officers when the Empire was preparing for its first war with the Ticetians. The Empire had realised that it could bring many men to the battlefield, but these were untrained peasants. What would be required were these men to be lead by well trained and well disciplined leaders. While the old soldiers may not have been capable of standing in battle any longer, they could certainly train others to do that.
This guild is aimed at those who not only consider the use of hand-to-hand weaponry in all its guises as an art form to be mastered, but who can also apply themselves to tactical leadership too. The guild teaches its huge range of weaponry to students that it expects to understand and mastery of them completely. The guild also teaches battle tactics and strategies which are of considerable help to those who become battle leaders. The organisation has strong military overtones, and is both well organised and rewards those with ability wherever it can.
It teaches weapon use as an art form, whether individuals wish to understand an be adept with many weapons, or whether they desire a high degree of specialisation with their one chosen tool. The techniques developed through this guild are both effective in use and pleasing to behold. They typically promote a flamboyant style and swagger to weapon use that is intended to show off a control of the weapon that surpasses ordinary teaching; the act of fighting almost becomes a dance. It also teaches that flamboyance has its place, and that for some enemies a fight should be ended by the cleanest and most expedient method possible, and to err on the side of winning the fight.
Because of the disciplines involved with this kind of teaching, both in the weapon styles taught and the environment in which that teaching taken place, the guild is aimed at those of lawful alignments. Neutral alignments will be tolerated, but there is little call for this guild from those of chaotic dispositions. It is also considered one of the group of organisations that represent the institutions of Empire, much like The Imperial Library and The Imperial School of Alchemy, Astronomy and Science.
